Common Questions and Answers

I have never owned a franchise business before; can you explain how it works?

Absolutely! You would essentially be buying a business and using our proven systems, recipes, and brand recognition to operate an already successful business model. It provides you with a tremendous head start and the opportunity to be trained and supported by our team of experts in all facets of running the bakery, including everything from baking to hiring, marketing, and bookkeeping! It gives you the opportunity to open a Happy Mixer in your local area, without having to create an entire business and operating system on your own.

The reality is we would be working with you to make sure you are as prepared, confident, and successful as possible, because we would be growing The Happy Mixer brand together! When you team up with us, you become a member of The Happy Mixer Family and we will do whatever it takes to see your dreams come to fruition!

Franchise businesses provide people just like you the opportunity to achieve the dream of business ownership every day. If you are passionate about the gluten free lifestyle, The Happy Mixer or even just about owning your own business, this could be the opportunity to change your life!

What are the startup costs and what do they include?

Currently the range of investment is from $351,425 to $537,350 which includes the $35,000 initial franchise fee. The rest of the estimated costs include expenses to launch The Happy Mixer Gluten Free Bakery in your local area, including all the equipment, display cases, construction of your bakery, 3rd party professional advisory fees, insurance and 3-months of working capital.

I do not have that kind of money saved, but I would still love to own my own Happy Mixer location?

Great news, you do not need to have all that money sitting in a bank account! In fact, we did not have all the money either when we opened our first location.

Think of it like buying a house. You just need a down payment. In this instance, it is approximately 25-30% (Roughly $100K). We then help you secure financing (like a mortgage) for the balance through our lending partners.

The biggest difference is when you buy a home, you must go to work and use the money to pay your home mortgage bill. If you buy a Happy Mixer, you should be able to pay off your loan, write-off the interest on the loan, and receive a nice income on top of that! Now that is a sweet deal!

If you do not have enough money for the down payment, perhaps you could partner with a friend or family member. Maybe someone in your family would like to invest in you!

I would love to do it, but I don’t know if there are enough gluten free customers in my area?

We hear you, and the truth is, we were worried about that as well when we opened in 2013. Fast forward to now and we have had 7+ straight years of growth! Each year we have increased sales and profits since the day we opened! The Happy Mixer has literally changed our lives in so many ways, and all while helping those in our gluten free community!

The other great benefit to a Happy Mixer franchise is that you will get our help in finding the best location in your area to help ensure you get your business off to the best possible start!

How much will the business make in a year? Will I make more than I do now?

This is the question we all want to know the answer too! We could not imagine having access to information like this before we opened our original location back in 2013! The great news for you is that we will be able to share with you our Financial Performance Representation, called an Item 19, in our Franchise Disclosure Document which highlights affiliate performance and history.

This outlines our current locations financials and helps you gain real world insight into the potential of owning your own Happy Mixer location.

This can be an immensely useful tool to help you evaluate the revenue potential for The Happy Mixer in your local area. Imagine knowing you could potentially make more money with an unlimited income potential, love what you do, and be your own boss! It really does not get much better than that!

This really sounds like an incredible opportunity, but I worry about changing my career path and leaving something so familiar to me?

We completely understand, that is human nature. If you currently like your job and are happy with your income, perhaps you do not really need to make a career change right now.

But if you do not enjoy your career as much as you used to, cannot see yourself doing it for another 5, 10, 20+ years or you simply want the potential for a higher income and more flexibility in your life, you should really consider requesting more information. This could be the first step in a better life for you and your family!

We would love to chat on the phone or even meet with you to discuss what The Happy Mixer is all about! The information is free and there is never any pressure. We are not looking to sell bakeries, we are looking to find great franchisees to represent The Happy Mixer brand and continue to reach the many gluten free families in need of safe, fresh, and insanely delicious baked goods!

We can assure you we will do our best to help make the transition to business ownership as smooth, enjoyable, and lucrative as possible!

How big is the typical bakery?

Between 1,600 and 1,800 square feet with adequate parking and drive by traffic. We have specific site criteria which we will review with you and help you evaluate the best real estate in your area for The Happy Mixer Gluten Free Bakery.

How long does it take to open?

This depends on how quickly you secure a lease location for your bakery. You do not need to build a bakery from the ground up. You should lease a space in one of a variety of storefront or free-standing spaces available in your market. We help owners evaluate real estate, with step-by-step guidance to help fit out The Happy Mixer Gluten Free Bakery. Once you sign your lease, you should be able to open in as little as 3 to 6 months.

Do all the recipes have to be gluten free? Do you provide us with the recipes?

Yes, we will provide you with all our top-secret recipes! Every recipe is gluten free, and this is our commitment to our customers. We are a 100% dedicated gluten free facility! We also serve those who have other dietary restrictions and preferences as well. This includes dairy free, soy free and tree nut free options, as well as offerings for those on a vegan diet. Additionally, your staff will not be permitted to consume or bring foods into the bakery that contain gluten for the safety of your customers.

Do I have to be an owner operator?

We want our owners to be involved. Some may choose to hire a head baker to oversee day-to-day operations of bakery production, with the owner managing marketing, development, and community outreach.

Can I own more than one bakery?

Yes. We believe qualified owners can own and operate multiple Happy Mixer locations.

How many people should be on the team in the bakery?

We recommend between 6 and 8 employees to start. You may decide to add staff as your following begins to grow!
